Under normal circumstances, there are dynamic balances between internal and external environments and there are many factors that can disturb the orders and cause imbalances in the body. Kidney is vital human organ of excretion and when it is affected, there will be kidney disease. There are many reasons that can damage the kidney such as emotions, diets, medicines, over-tiredness, physical traumas, etc. If kidney damages are not controlled timely or properly, it will gradually develop into various kidney diseases.

At present most chronic kidney diseases are not easy to cure and the aim of effective treatments are to control the complications and slow down the illness progression and delay the occurring of end stage renal disease.

Chronic kidney disease can be divided into 5 stages according to the remaining kidney functions. Stage 1 just has mild kidney damages and stage 5 the most severe damages and dialysis may be required.

Then what does stage 3 kidney disease mean and how long will patients survive in this stage. CKD is classified according to GFR which can reflect kidney functions. Stage 3 CKD has GFR (glomerular filtration rate) of 30-59ml/min and kidney damages in this stage can still be reversible with proper and effective preventions and treatments.

Usually patients will have a series of symptoms and complications due to kidney impairments; therefore it is very necessary to first bring these risk factors well under control. These risk factors include hypertension, proteinuria, hematuria, anemia, hyperlipidemia, etc because they will all in turn aggravate kidney damages if left untreated.

Diet is another important factor for stage 3 CKD. Scientific diets can help alleviate symptoms, reduce damages and improve the patients’ life quality. In this stage patients should limit the intake of protein and have more vitamins. High quality and low protein diets can help reduce burdens to the kidneys.
