My PKD Treatment Experience In Shijiazhuang Kidney Disease Hospital

My PKD Treatment Experience In Shijiazhuang Kidney Disease HospitalI am a 62-year-old white Englishman who lives a lot time in Spain. In June 2013, I was diagnosed as having stage 5 polycystic kidney disease (PKD). A kidney doctor in Spain said I should start dialysis straight away while a top specialist in London said that within about 6 months I should expect to need dialysis or a kidney transplant.

I then embarked on a program of researching and trying out various alternative therapies. Then, at the start of August, I saw the chance to speed a month at the Chinese clinic-Shijiazhuang Kidney Disease Hospital and took it.

Firstly, I would like to say that the people there-experts, doctors and nurses-appear to me to be of the highest standard. The service and care was exceptionally good and very professional. I have never seen such care in the west.

Everyone has their own private room in a special foreigners building. The rooms are of a high standard although not especially luxurious. They are kept very clean and tidy.

You can cook in your own room. You can come with a family member who stays in the same private room as you and shops and cooks for you. Your own private kitchen facilities are provided in your room and there are supermarkets where you can buy most of the food you will need. I manage the whole time on my room, shopping and cooking for myself, without much problem even though I am a vegetarian and usually very keen on organic. I survived. Actually I was quite happy with my diet.

TV and Internet are also available in the rooms. Internet can be patchy and slow. This needs to be improved and they know it.

The level of English is workable but sometimes not as good as it should be. It needs to be improved and they are working on it. Due to this condition, sometimes a simple discussion can be very complicated. However, this is more than made up for by how charming and helpful the nurses and translators are. You can not find this in the west.

Now my result: on arrival at the hospital, my creatinine level was 5.4mg/dL and when i left the hospital it was 5.8mg/dL. After two or three months of home treatment, however, my creatinine level has reduced significantly. First to 5.2mg/dL and then to 4.1mg/dL. I am aware that I need further tests such as creatinine clearance to fully evaluate my improvement. I will do after three full months of home treatment.

Nevertheless, to me, the change so far has been very promising. Besides improvement in creatinine, other symptoms such as itchiness, lack of energy, etc have been greatly alleviated.

Apart from the above, the hospital included treatment for a serious enlarged prostate. And symptoms such as difficulty in passing urine, urgency and the need to urinate many times during the night has improved very dramatically.

From my experience, I find there are no grounds for the criticisms levelled at this hospital on the website. I found this hospital to be a genuine professional institution staffed by excellent and dedicated specialists, doctors and nurses of a very high standard, focused not on making money but on the improved well-being of their patients. More importantly, my completely untreatable PKD appears to be improved substantially over a four-month in patient and out-patient treatment period.

If you are a PKD patient and face the same issue like me, Shijiazhuang Kidney Disease Hospital is worth trying.
