Proper Diet is Important for Hyperuricemia Nephropathy

2012-09-24 18:59

Uric acid is the end product of purine metabolism and increase uric acid level is caused by purine metabolic disorder or reduced excretion ability of the kidney. Hypersaturated state of uric acid in the blood will cause its deposition in the kidneys and cause renal damages, which is hyperuricemia nephropathy.

Increased uric acid is in most cases caused by unreasonable eating habits and therefore it is very necessary to know the proper diet for them so as to help alleviate pains and discomforts and reduce or even reverse renal damages.

What are proper foods and diet for hypoeruricemia nephropathy patients?

1. Avoid foods that are rich in purine such as animal offal, fat meat, lentils, shellfish, ham, anchovies, sardines, etc.

2. Control the intake of protein (no more than 1.0g/kg/day). Milk and eggs that contain less glycoprotein should be the main consumption.

3. Eat more fresh vegetables and fruits. Fruits and vegetables are mostly alkalescent and they contain rich vitamins especially vitamin B and vitamin C such as rape, cabbage and carrot. However there are some vegetables that should be avoided because they are high in oxalic acid and they will cause rapid increase of uric acid and burden the kidneys. These foods include spinach, celery and radish, etc.

4. Avoid seafood, shellfish and other aquatic products because they contain more polysaccharide and protein and their decomposition will increase kidneys’ burden.

5. Avoid alcohol because alcohol can increase the lactic acid in the blood and the excretion of lactic acid of the renal tubules will hinder the excretion of uric acid. Drink more water (2000-3000ml/day) and maintain daily urine output of 2000ml.This can help discharge uric acid, small kidney stones and control infections.

6. Avoid overeating, overdrinking and over-tiredness. Limit the intake of salt and avoid hot and excitant foods.

Hyperuricemia nephropathy has great damages to the human health. Besides diet control, there should be regulations of all the disorders and imbalances in the body. Have more exercises, have less high-purine foods and more vegetables and fruits in our daily life can help lower its incidence and reduce its damages.
