Is Kidney Transplant The Last Option For Uremia

Recently in the communication I find a very alarming question: many uremia patients lay their hope on kidney transplant rather than adopting positive treatment.

The theory of kidney transplant is very simple. A kidney transplant is an operation that places a healthy kidney in your body. The transplanted kidney takes over the work of the two kidneys that failed, so you no longer need dialysis. Often, the new kidney will start making urine as soon as your blood starts flowing through it. But sometimes it takes a few weeks to start working.

A most majority of patients lay their hope on kidney transplant. They think as long as they have a kidney transplant, all problems will be solved.

Is kidney transplant the last option for uremia patients?

We know kidney transplant has a very low match and successful operation. Besides, after a transplant, you have to take anti-rejection medications for your rest of life. However, immunosuppressants have damages to your body, especially damages on immunity. Your life quality will decrease obviously. What’s worse, rejection reaction will make kidneys failed again. That is, new kidney can lose its function again. The expense of kidney transplant is huge and ordinary household cannot afford such huge costs.

What can you do if you are diagnosed with uremia?

Dialysis and then kidney transplant are for uremia. Is this right? Of course not. Dialysis is only able to remove small molecular substances such as creatinine and urea nitrogen. There are other therapies that can also achieve this purpose.
