2012-09-13 18:17

Type 2 diabetes is adult diabetes and it mainly happens to people that are above 35 to 40. It accounts for more than 90% of all diabetes cases and it is due to relative lack of insulin. That is to say, the patients still have the ability to produce insulin and some patients even produce excessive insulin, however due to insulin resistance, it can not be fully used to promote the absorption, transformation and utilization of glucose. Clinical observations have found that insulin resistance exists in more than 90% diabetes patients and the rest is due to inadequate secretion of insulin. If leaf untreated or treated improperly, it will lead to infections, heart diseases, cerebrovascular disease, kidney failure, blindness, lower limb gangrene, etc and it is the main cause of disability and death, therefore it is very necessary to know the factors that can cause type 2 diabetes because some can be prevented so as to greatly lower its incidence.

1. Hereditary factor. Similar to type I diabetes, type 2 diabetes has familial characteristic and this may be related to gene heredity. This genetic characteristic is even more obvious than type I. For example, if one of the twins has type I diabetes, the other has 40% chance to get it and if it is type 2 diabetes the other has 70% chance.

2. Obesity. One important factor of type 2 diabetes is obesity. Heredity can cause obesity and type 2 diabetes as well. And if the excess fat is in the abdomen, the patients are more susceptible to get type 2 diabetes than those that have the excessive fat concentrated in hips and thighs.

3. Age. Age is also one factor that can cause type 2 diabetes. There are half patients have the onset after 55 years old. The elderly are easier to get diabetes because they are usually overweight.

4. Modern life styles. The intake of high-calorie food and the reduce of exercises can also cause diabetes and some people think this is caused by obesity.

From the above we can see that many factors can be prevented such as obesity and unhealthy life styles. Though the hereditary factor can not be changed, developing a healthy life style and good life habits can help slow down the progress of diabetes and reduce symptoms and complications and improve life quality.
