Type 1 Diabetes And Constant HungerOne of our patients describe his disease to us that he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes about 8 months ago. About two months later he began to experience constant hunger, like he has never had before. Constant hunger or excessive hunger is a symptom of type 1 diabetes. Well then how does diabetes lead to constant hunger?

How does type 1 diabetes cause constant hunger?

Type 1 diabetes usually begins in young children and teenagers. People with this type of diabetes have a pancreas which does not produce enough insulin or that stops producing it altogether. The hormone insulin is responsible for regulating your blood sugar. In type 1 diabetes, your body does not produce enough insulin to perform its vital function. In this case, the glucose or sugar will build up in your blood instead of being used as an energy source for the body. This dysfunction causes you to feel constantly hungry and have excessive thirst as well as unintentional weight loss. Apart from excessive hungry, you may also experience fatigue, blurry vision, frequent urination and tingling in the feet.

How to alleviate constant hunger?

To alleviate this symptom in type 1 diabetes, you should form a regular eating habit. Try eating at the same time everyday. Breakfast 7 am, lunch around 1pm and dinner at 6 pm. You can snack in between and try not to skip any meals. In addition, you should make sure your meals are balanced including crabs, vegetables, protein and dairy. You should keep a hard candy near by if you start to feel constant hunger. What’s more, eat slowly and try to drink much more water which will help to full stomach.

Eating management can help alleviate constant sugar to some extent. But if you want to remove this symptom from the root, making your body itself using blood sugar is essential.
