High blood pressure

High blood pressure is a very common symptom of PKD.It is also an significant accelerator in worsening renal function. As renal cysts enlarge, they will cause pressure against the adjacent nephrons. If the kidneys can not get adequate oxygen supply, more renin will be made.Renin can contract blood vessels, thus resulting in high blood pressure.

Fatigue

Feeling tired is one of common symptoms of stage 4 kidney disease in PKD and it is often caused by anemia.Healthy kidneys can produce a kind of EPO,a hormone which can stimulate bone marrow to produce red blood cells. When kidneys fail to work, less red blood cells are produced, thus giving rise to anemia.

Sleep disorder

Sleep problems are common in stage 4 kidney disease in PKD. Some people have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. Itching, muscle cramps or restless legs can keep them awake. These conditions occurs due to high levels of wastes products and toxins build up in body.

Back pain

Back pain commonly occurs in PKD.As the cysts enlarge, they will cause pressure against the adjacent kidney tissues, thus leading to back pain. In addition, the stretching of renal capsule due to enlarged renal cysts also can contribute to back pain.

Too much fluid

As the kidneys are impaired severely, the kidneys may lose their ability to control how much fluid stays in the body. The PKD patients may notice edema in lower legs, hands or face around the eyes. With high accumulation of fluid in body, the patients may feel shortness of breath and weight gain.
