Polycystic Kidney Disease causes fatigue symptom by affecting red blood cells. A healthy kidney is essential for the production of red blood cells as it can help to produce erythropoietin which is essential for the generation of red blood cells. For people with Polycystic Kidney Disease, cysts in their blood enlarger day by day and oppress surrounding renal tissues. These renal tissues can not get enough nutrition and oxygen, which make them unable in functioning. When more and more renal tissues are damaged, erythropoietin cannot be secreted timely, as a result of which, red blood cells count in the blood decreases. Red blood cells take charge of bring oxygen to our body and without enough oxygen, we feel tired easily.
Red blood cell count is usually used to diagnose anemia. For people with fatigue symptoms, they need to be alert and go to hospital to found out whether they are suffering from anemia. Fatigue is just one of the symptoms of Polycystic Kidney Disease and for PKD patients, this symptom indicates kidney function has been impaired and patient’s normal life has been affected as well. At that moment, protecting residual kidney function is necessary; otherwise, PKD symptoms will become more and more serious and finally kidney failure will be caused.
Polycystic Kidney Disease is a genetic disease. For PKD patients, we can not help them to remove PKD gene, but through effective medical treatment, we can help them avoid kidney failure effectively. Therefore, even if we are diagnosed with PKD gene, we should be optimistic and treat it actively. As long as Polycystic Kidney Disease is stopped in early stage, fatigue and other symptoms can be avoided effectively.
