Similar with many other diseases, Polycystic Kidney Disease also has complications which, in medicine, is an unfavorable evolution of a disease, a health condition or a therapy. Polycystic Kidney Disease complications refers to the medical conditions that patients develop easily becasue of PKD. These complications can be the final cause of PKD patient's death, and also they can accelerate PKD to kidney failure. Polycystic Kidney Disease complications include:
1. Polycystic Liver
For people who found their Polycystic Kidney Disease in middle age, about half of them will develop cyst in liver. In general, Polycystic Liver occurs 10 years after the occurrence of Polycystic Kidney Disease.
2. Kidney Stone
In some cases of Polycystic Kidney Disease, patients suffer from extreme back pain because of kidney stone, not cyst in kidney. Pain caused by PKD usually is dull pain, and pain caused by kidney stone always occurs as angina. In addition, with kidney stone, PKD patients always have blood urine symptom.
3. Elevated blood pressure and repeated urinary tract infection
High blood pressure and urinary tract infection are another two common conditions that occur easily among Polycystic Kidney Disease patients. Although they usually occur as PKD symptoms, they accelerate the progression of polycystic kidney problem and push patients into kidney failure earlier.
4. Brain Aneurysm
Brain aneurysm, as a dangerous medical condition, is more common among PKD patients with age 18 to 35 and aneurysm family history. For small aneurysm (usually less than 6mm), conservative treatment is enough, and for these large ones, surgery is usually needed. Besides, once aneurysm ruptures, surgery needs to be done within 72 hours.
All the complications can become the final cause of PKD patient's death, so for the sake of health, Polycystic Kidney Disease patients need to prevent them in advance.
