Prognosis Of Polycystic Kidney Disease: Life Expectancy With PKD

2013-02-21 15:53

Polycystic kidney disease is a chronically progressive renal disorder due to gene mutation. Usually adult patients will not have obvious clinical symptoms until they are 30 years old. The younger the patients develop symptoms, the more severe the illness condition is. Symptoms in male patients are more serious than that in female patients.

Once there are clinical symptoms, it takes more than 10 years to progress into renal failure along with continuous enlargement and increase of renal cysts in bilateral kidneys. There are about 50% PKD patients will develop renal failure at their 50s or 60s at which point dialysis and kidney transplant will be offered by the doctors.

The prognosis of PKD still has great individual differences. Some patients can live their entire life without developing into end stage renal disease. They can live normal full life and die an old man. It is true that PKD is genetic and congenital, but it is not definitely a terminal disease. Though at present this is no complete cure for polycystic kidney disease, there are indeed many patients live as long as anyone else can expect. We have summed up their experiences for improving the general prognosis and prolonging life expectancy for all those that are suffering from and fighting against PKD.

Life expectancy is directly related to how fast renal functions decline. The root problem to affect renal functions in PKD is renal cysts which will experience continuous growth replacing normal renal tissues and damaging renal functions. Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy can shrinking renal cysts, preventing growing of small cysts and formation of more cysts so as to much slow down its progression and protect kidney functions.

Besides coping with renal cysts, you need to know the crucial factors that can affect the life expectancy for PKD patients---high blood pressure, heart disease and other cardiovascular diseases, various infections, aneurysm, etc.

You need not lose heart and at the same time take good care of yourself and seek early and proper therapies to help it progress more slowly so as to strive more time for more promising treatments in the future for this genetic disease.
