Cystic kidney diseases are characterized by one or several fluid-filled cysts in unilateral or bilateral kidneys. These cysts will enlarge gradually and oppress surrounding renal intrinsic cells and tissues and damage renal structure and functions. There are many factors in our daily life that can induce and aggravate renal cystic diseases, therefore it is necessary to know these risk factors so as to have positive prevention in advance. Here i will introduce 8 inducing factors of cystic kidney diseases.

1. Congenital dysplasia. Congenital dysplasia can cause many diseases and for cystic diseases are medullary sponge kidney and PKD. Different from gene heredity or gene mutation, the gene is usually normal in case of congenital dysplasia.

2. Gene mutation. Most PKD patients inherit the disease from their parents, however there are indeed some cases getting the disease due to gene mutation in the process of embryo formation. That is why some PKD patients have no family history. This condition is rare in clinic.

3. Various infections. Infections can cause abnormal changes in the internal environment and disturb the balance. This will strength the activities of the cystic internal factors and promote the continuous growth of the cysts. Infection of any part of the body will enter into the kidney through blood circulation and influence the cysts. In case of cystic infection, the clinical symptoms and renal damage will all be worsened. Weather it is virus infection or bacteria infection, they will have great impact on the cysts. The common infections include upper respiratory infection (including cold), urinary tract infection, gastrointestinal infection, skin infection, trauma infection, instrumental infection, etc.

4. Toxins. Toxins can damage all cells, tissues and organs and cause various diseases and sometimes the damages can be life-threatening. What’s more, toxin is also one major reason of gene mutation and congenital dysplasia. The common toxic substances include pesticide, chemicals, radiation and pollutions. One thing needs to be noted that some certain medicines and drugs have renal toxicity and improper usage can cause renal impairments.

5. Improper diet. Bad eating habit can cause many diseases and is also an important factor for the occur and worsening of renal cystic diseases. Eating without moderation, unclean foods and partial eating habits can all damage human health.

6. Imbalance of labor and rest. Physical and mental over-tiredness and excessive sexual intercourse will all speed up the progress of the illness. Cystic disease patients should pay special attention to avoid strenuous exercises and abdominal traumas to avoid cyst rupture and infections.

7. Negative emotions. Negative and pessimistic emotions can cause disorders in the nervous system and endocrine and change the internal environment. Bad mood can also further lower the immunity and make patients become weaker and weaker. A lot of clinical practices have proved that bad mood can worsen the illness condition especially the cystic diseases while proper neutralizing emotions can make the condition better,

8. Pregnancy. Generally the influence of pregnancy on cystic kidney diseases mainly depends on renal functions. Take PKD for example. Though it has not yet been proved that pregnancy will worsen PKD, there are about 1/4 PKD gravida will develop hypertension or hypertension will be worsened and the prognosis is poor in cause of multiple pregnancy.
