Bearing Nightingale Spirit in Mind

Nurses are generally referred to as angels in white and they are all very kind and considerate. They will stay by patients’ side taking good cares of them and sharing their pains, sorrows and joys. But they just think it is their duties because they always bear the spirits of Nightingale in mind and prepare to devote all they have to the patients when needed.

Beautiful and gentle nurse Kikco once moved everyone, thought it might sound trivial to you.

Once there was one patient of type 1 diabetes from Kuwait and Kikco is her charge nurse. The patient has suffered from diabetes for years and she has lost her eyesight due to badly controlled high blood sugar. She becomes very irritable and negative and lost hope for any treatments after so many year.

One time after dispute with her mother, she refused to have foods and treatment and even hid her insulin. Whatever her mother said, she just did not want to listen.

Kikco clearly knew the serious consequences for diabetes patients if she did not have any food and insulin. Unwilling to see her patient to suffer from additional pains, Kikco stayed besides her bed to comfort and enlighten her. When it was lunch time, Kikco did not go for lunch with other nurses but stayed with her patient. Kikco is like a sister to hold the patient’ s hands and patted her and told her that she is not alone and all the nurses care about her and want her to gain early recovery.

Little by little, the patient was moved by Kikco and her anger and irritation was alleviated by Kikco’s gentleness and comforts. At last, she brought the insulin out and gave it to Kikco.

Thought it might be trivial, but numerous trivial things added are really great and admiring.

We know that many kidney patients and diabetes patients not only suffer from physical pains but also mental sufferings which are sometimes even more serious than the physical pains. What they need is a little more comforts and patience and sometimes even a smile or gentle word might give them enormous comfort and encouragement.

Stay more closer to them and listen to their hearts and save more lives!
