Free Health Check in Cumbria, England

The University of Cumbria in England will invite about 22,000 people each year for free health check over the next 5 years. Those that are invited are aged from 40 to 74 and they will be offered free examination and of kidney diseases, diabetes, heart diseases and stroke which are the top four causes of death in this county.

The aim of the programme is to help diagnose these four diseases, provide medical advices and supports and help patients develop good habits and lifestyles, build up hope for future and improve their life quality.

We all know that at the early stage of weather kidney diseases or heart diseases, there is usually no obvious symptoms and they are easy to be neglected or misdiagnosed. When they do have symptoms and discomforts, the illness conditions have become very serious and the best period for treatment has often been missed.

Actually all these diseases can be prevented with early detection and effective treatments and prevention measures. This programme will help offer free screening for those that are invited and offer advices on reducing risk of developing into serious illness conditions.

Kidney diseases, diabetes, heart diseases and stroke have different symptoms and pathogenesis, however they all have much to do with a set of common factors including diet, blood pressure, blood sugar, smoking, alcohol, emotions, etc.

It is well known that the earlier the disease is detected, the fewer damages it will causes and the earlier the effective treatments are received, the better the curative effects will be, therefore this programme will play significant role in reducing incidence of these life-threatening diseases and help people lead a higher quality life.
