Nephrotic Syndrome and Nausea

2013-02-10 15:43

Besides typical proteinuria, edema, high blood lipid and low plasma albumin, some nephrotic syndrome patients have the symptoms of nausea and vomiting when they get up in the morning. And sometimes they will feel nausea and vomiting if there is unpleasant smell.

Usually when nephrotic syndrome patients develop nausea and vomiting, it means that patients’ kidney functions have been damaged and the balance of acid-base has been disturbed. The accumulation of metabolic wastes and toxins due to failed kidney functions is another cause of nausea and vomiting.

Nausea can also be the side effects of some medicines that the patients take such as Mycophenloate Mofetil Tablets. If patients take the medicines for long time with large dosage, it can cause gastrointestinal reactions such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation and indigestion.

If the nausea is the side effect of the hormones, report it to the doctor and adjust its dosage or change for another one. Some Chinese medicines can much reduce side effects of hormones and cytotoxic drugs. Herbal medicine astragalus membranaceus can increase albumin synthesis in the liver.

However if the nausea is due to worsening of illness conditions and decline of kidney functions, patients should go to specialized kidney disease hospital and seek effective treatments that do not just aim at reducing proteinuria and edema, but also can repair damaged renal functional units and rebuild kidney functions so as to alleviate nausea, proteinuria, edema and other discomforts from the root and prevent nephrotic syndrome from progressing into end stage renal failure.

In case of frequent nausea and vomiting, you are recommended to go to local kidney disease hospital and have related tests such as urine test, blood test, kidney function test, B ultrasound so as to have early diagnosis and timely treatments.

The following are some tips that are good for nephrotic syndrome patients even though they do not have the symptoms of nausea and vomiting.
