Chronic Glomerulonephritis usually involves in two kidneys and is characterized by inflammation of the glomeruli or small blood vessels in the kidneys. In clinic, Chronic Glomerulonephritis occurs in different ways, so it is categorized into several different pathological patterns, which are broadly grouped into non-proliferative and proliferative types. Non-proliferative nephritis includes Minimal Change Disease (MCD), Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) and Membranous Glomerulonephritis. As for the proliferative type, it includes IgA Nephropathy and Membranoproliferative/ mesangiocapillary Glomerulonephritis. Although Chronic Glomerulonephritis can be divided into different types, all the types are related with immune system.

A strong immune system is the precondition for us to live a healthy and normal life, so various diseases occur when this system is damaged or impaired. For people with Chronic Glomerulonephritis, they usually have abnormal immune system or impaired immunity which can lead to the easy invasion of bacterium and viruses. These harmful substances like bacterium and viruses are called antigen and when they get into our body, they combine with antibody and therefore form immune complex. Immune complexes does not belong to our body and once they are formed and deposit in our kidney, inflammation will appear to against them. Chronic Glomerulonephritis is diagnosed when there is inflammation in glomeruli or small blood vessels in the kidneys.

With Chronic Glomerulonephritis, patients usually have protein urine, blood urine, swelling, elevated blood pressure and tiredness uncomfortable symptoms. Many patients are prescribed with oral medicines to control these symptoms and believe the alleviation of them indicate remission of kidney problem. Actually, occurrence of Chronic Glomerulonephritis is closely related with our immune mechanism, and if we want to stop it effectively, treatment for it must start from regulating immune system. Therefore, only controlling clinical manifestation is far from enough. To get Chronic Glomerulonephritis controlled fundamentally, aside from controlling symnptoms, we also need to strengthen our immune system and meanwhile clear existing immune complexes away from blood.
