Proteinuria - Membranous Nephropathy

2013-01-02 10:28

Membranous Nephropathy is the damage to glomerular basement membrane. Glomerular cells can filter bloodstream and effectively prevent leakage of nutrients. As the filtering membrane is impaired, an excess amount of proteins will be present in urine, causing proteinuria. There is no visible urine change when urine protein output is slight. As damage to glomerular cells is worsening, the patients will find bubbles/foams in their urine. The extent and duration of proteinuria is closely linked to the prognosis in Membranous Nephropathy. Factors associated to poor prognosis mainly include being male patient, at an older age, or with glomerulosclerosis and renal tubular damage in pathology.

Effective treatment for proteinuria requires repairing of injured glomerular cells, by means of which proteinuria can be treated from root cause and relapses can be effectively avoided.
