2014-05-09 07:00

What Are Foods For Membranous Nephropathy PreventionMembranous Nephropathy is an autoimmune disorder of the kidney. In membranous nephritis, immune complexes are deposited within the walls of capillaries inside the kidneys, which causes the capillary walls to thicken, which diminishes their ability to filter blood. Because the kidneys fail to filter blood, proteins escape from the capillaries, leading to high blood pressure, fluid retention, high cholesterol and protein in urine. Apart from correcting the underlying conditions, dietary changes also plays an important role in the treatment.

1. Reduce water intake

Too much fluid intake will promote water retention and swelling of your kidneys. You should consult your doctor about how much fluid intake in proper for your condition.

2. Decrease salt intake

A low salt intake should be followed if you have swelling hands or feet. The recommended salt consumption is no more than 1500mg a day. You can reduce your sodium intake by avoiding processed foods, fast food, canned food, bacon, chips, condiments and ready foods as well as other foods. Also avoid adding salt to foods.

3. Restrict protein

Those who have proteinuria should limit protein consumption. Proteinuria is dangerous because it can damage the kidney and even lead to kidney failure. Moreover, it also causes swelling of the body due to loss of protein. A recommended moderate protein intake is about one gram of protein per kilogram of body weight a day.

4. Reduce fat and cholesterol

A low fat, low cholesterol diet is used to avoid further elevation of cholesterol related to membrane nephritis and to lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Saturated fats should be avoided as well as foods high cholesterol. This includes foods such as eggs, whole milk, butter, fatty cuts of meat and fried foods.

5. Low potassium foods intake

Membranous nephropathy patients with hyperkalemia should avoid foods high in potassium such as bananas, potatoes, pumpkin, tea, soy and so on.
