Nausea/ Vomit - Renal Failure

2012-09-17 10:35

Nausea, vomiting or throwing up are the clinical behaviours of kidney failure and it is mainly contributable to the following two reasons.

1. Renal failure makes renal tubule fail to concentrate urine, as a consequence of which, frequent urine occurs. As too much fluids are lots during night, blood condense and urea nitrogen level in blood increase as well, which can lead to nausea or vomit directly.

2. Because of kidney failure, urea nitrogen pile up in blood. Bacterium in intestinal tract decompose urea nitrogen into ammonia which stimulate mucosa of gastrointestinal tract and therefore cause nausea and vomiting.

Nausea and vomiting affect our life seriously. For kidney failure patients, if they feel nauseous, it is important to rest and not undergo any activity, as it may worsen the feeling. Also, to remit the bad feeling, drinking some water will be helpful. Because of nausea or vomiting, kidney failure patients usually have poor appetite and even the thought of eating may make them ill. Under such a condition, they can eat some gentle foods like crackers or toast and stay away from foods loaded with fats and spices.

Lastly, urea nitrogen builds up in blood because of impaired kidney function. Therefore, recoveing kidney function is the only method to remove nausea and vomit fundamentally. Strong kidneys function well and help us discharge wastes like urea nitrogen and creatinine fully and timely. Therefore, as long as our blood keep being cleaned regularly, nausea and vomiting will be prevented effectively.
