Hyperkalemia And Acidosis in Chronic Renal Failure

2013-11-29 16:23

Hyperkalemia and acidosis are two common signs of chronic kidney failure, especially in the advanced stage. These two conditions are very dangerous and even life-threatening. Therefore,it is important for the patients to take ways to control them early enough.

Hyperkalemia in chronic kidney failure

Hyperkalemia is a medical disorder in which excess potassium builds up in blood.Potassium is a nutrient that is critical to the function of nerve and muscle cells, including those in heart. The normal range of blood potassium is 3.6 to 5.2 mmol/L.When the level of potassium in blood exceeds the normal range,it will cause hyperkalemia. When the level of blood potassium is higher than 7, it can be life-threatening.

In right condition, kidneys can filter out excess minerals from body to keep the electrolytes balanced. Therefore,in right condition, excess potassium can be eliminated from body by kidneys. In chronic kidney failure, the diseased kidneys fail to perform the function, thus resulting in accumulation of potassium in bloodstream. Hyperkalemia will be the result.

Acidosis in chronic Kidney Failure

Acidosis is a condition in which the concentration of hydrogen ion is higher than normal. In right condition, the level of hydrogen ion is normally managed by several buffering and elimination systems, including the kidney. As a result, progressive renal failure is accompanied by an increasing inability to excrete metabolites of fuel consumption, lower blood pH, and reduced bicarbonate levels.Hence, acidosis will be the result in chronic kidney failure.

The above are the causes of hyperkalemia and acidosis in chronic kidney failure. How to reverse them becomes the concerned issue for the patients with the conditions. The underlying cause is to restore the impaired kidney structure to enhance renal function. To obtain the treatment goal, Micro-Chinese Medicines Osmotherapy is the effective treatment for the patients.
