Is It Possible For A Kidney Failure Patient To Have Sexual IntercourseIs it possible for a kidney failure patient to have sexual intercourse? Kidney failure can affect many body systems, including sexuality. There are many things that can affect sexuality if you have kidney failure like hormones, nerves, energy levels and even medicines.

Kidney failure will affect sexual intercourse.

When you have kidney failure, your interest in sex may change. In the beginning, you may have less interest in sex because you need a lot of energy to deal with the physical and emotional changes brought on by your illness. In time, your interest may become to normal.

It is very common for some men with kidney failure to find it more difficult to have or keep an erection. It can result from the side effects of medicine, having a pileup of toxic wastes in the blood that may not be fully removed by dialysis or other things.

Emotions can also affect sexual functioning. It includes stress, depression, nerves, fear of disability or death, marriage problems and so on.

Is it safe for kidney failure patients to have sexual intercourse?

Some patients and their partners may worry that sexual activity could cause patients’ death or harm the dialysis access or transplanted kidney. If sexual activity does not place pressure or tension on the access site, it will not cause damage.

As for kidney transplant patients, they need to wait until the scar has begun to heal. If your doctor says it is ok to resume sexual activity, there is no reason to worry about damaging the transplanted kidney.

However, it is not possible for some couples to have sexual intercourse. Some may feel that sex is not as important as it once was. Sexual activities such as touching, hugging and kissing provide feeling of warmth and closeness even if intercourse is not involved.

Kidney failure will affect sexual intercourse in some way. Please do not worry. We are always here to help you.
