Kidney failure is a medial condition in which the kidneys fail to adequately filter waste products from the blood. Well, what are the causes and signs of kidney failure?

Causes of kidney failure

1. Chronic kidney disease (CKD)

Chronic kidney disease has numerous causes. The most common causes of CKD are diabetes and long-term, uncontrolled hypertension. Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is another cause of CKD. The most people afflicted with PKD has a family history of the disease.

Overuse of common drugs such as aspirin, iburofen, and acetaminophen can also cause chronic kidney damage.

Some infections such as hantarirus can attack the kidneys, causing kidney failure.

2. Acute kidney failure

Prolonged and unresolved acute kidney failure. The most common causes of acute kidney failure include substances toxic to kidneys present in the bloodstream, inflammation or infection involving kidney tissues and swelling due to obstruction of urine or blood flow from the kidney or from trauma to the kidney.

Signs of kidney failure

The signs and symptoms of kidney failure include a decrease in urine output, fluid retention, swelling, drowsiness, shortness of breath, fatigue, and in severe cases, chest pain, seizure or coma. Although a decrease in urine output is a common sign of kidney failure, it may not be a marked decrease. Fluid retention is the most noticeable sign of kidney failure and swelling of the feet, ankles, or legs as a result of the fluid build up is generally obvious.

The causes and signs of kidney failure have been mentioned above. As for kidney failure, early and effective treatment should be taken to repair kidney damage and improve renal function.
