Q:
I have a renal cyst on my right kidney and it was found by accident in an ultrasound done for gastric check. I have no symptoms or discomforts at present since the cyst is now very small. I did the test last month and the cyst only measures about 1.5cm. The doctor told me that the cyst is no cancer at all and there is nothing to worry about it. He offered no treatments at all. But I am so worried. Can the cyst continue to grow and become larger and what should I do in daily life to reduce it? By the way, doctor, I’d like to drink coffee everyday, but I learnt that drinking coffee is not good for kidney cysts and should I quit drinking coffee?
A:
Your doctor is right, kidney cyst is a fluid-filled sack which is a common and benign renal disorder and the incidence of cancerization is very low. In the beginning, the cyst is very small and it will cause no discomforts or symptoms. However the cysts will continue to enlarge and oppress surrounding renal tissues and damage renal functions.
