I was just told to have a 7cm kidney cyst at a health center after I do ultrasound to check my liver. I was shocked, angry and worried about this news because I have always been very proud of my good health and a much younger looks than my real age. I know kidney cyst 7cm is very large and I feel angry because the doctor said it is normal when I told him I have frequent urination and the urine looked yellow about 5 years ago. If the doctor 5 years ago had ordered an ultrasound for my kidney, maybe the cyst would not have grown to such a large one and I could have dealt with it much earlier. I really want to know is it normal to urinate very frequently? And what kind of treatment should I receive with 7cm kidney cyst?

Hi, sorry to hear your story and I can understand your feeling very much. Firstly, I am sorry to say that kidney cyst indeed cause frequent urination in some cases, but this condition only occurs when kidney cyst causes kidney damages. Renal tubule has function to reabsorb nutrition and fluids that filtered by glomeruli and once it is damaged, fluids can not be reabsorbed effectively, as a result of which, much more urine are formed.
Kidney cyst causes no symptoms at the very beginning, but when it enlarges to a certain size, it may damage our renal tubule and therefor cause frequent urination. However, this cannot indicate your cyst has existed 5 years ago. Besides, frequent urination symptom caused by kidney damages mostly occurs at night. So what is your condition about 5 years ago?
Kidney cyst needs to be treated when it enlarges to 4cm. Your kidney cyst has enlarged to 7cm, and in such a size, it ruptures easily. Therefore, it will be better if you can receive medical treatment as soon as possible.
As for the treatment, I want to know do you have decreased kidney function? If your kidney functions well, it will be ok for you to simply shrink or cut off kidney cyst; but if your kidney have been unfortunately damaged, aside from treating kidney cyst, you also need to recover kidney function, so as to keep far away from kidney failure.
