Q:

It was found that there is a renal cyst of 4.7cm on my father’s left kidney. It was found by accident in physical examination. He has already been 59 years old. Though he has no very obvious symptoms, he worried a lot. I want to know what symptoms the cyst will cause and is there any natural and conservative treatment that is fit for elderly patients?

A:

With the population of physical examination and widely application of imaging tests such as ultrasound and CT scan, more and more people are found out to be with at least one cyst on their kidney and this is especially common among the elderly.

Small cysts will not cause any symptoms or signs and many people do not even know they have it. However there are many factors that can stimulate the growth of the cysts if they do not pay more attention in daily life.

Kidney cyst of 4.7cm usually will cause a series of symptoms and complications including the following ones.

1. Pains and discomforts in the back and abdomen.

2. Hematuria (blood in urine).

3. Abdominal mass.

4. Proteinuria (bubble urine).

5. High blood pressure.

6. Kidney stones.

7. Urinary tract infections.

8. Reduced kidney functions.

Traditional surgeries of removing kidney cysts do much harm to the body and the recurrent rate it high; therefore it is not suitable for elderly patients. Conservative treatment include herbal therapy and dietotherapy which are safe and the effects are durable.
