Q:
I have been suffering from pains on my right side and back. I went to say the doctor and it was thought that the pain is caused by my gallbladder and I was arranged for a CT scan. The result shows that the gallbladder is fine, but a cyst on my kidney is found. The size is about 2.8cm and I am scheduled to say an urologist in one week. Is kidney cyst of 2.8cm very serious? Should I worry for it and what kind of treatments will I receive?
A:
First you need not to worry so much because worries and anxiety has nothing use but aggravating the illness conditions. Kidney cyst is a very common kidney disease and its incidence will increase along with age and there are half of those that are above 50 will have at least one simple kidney cyst and it will not affect the normal life if the illness condition can be brought well under control. If the cyst is small (less than 3cm) and it usually does not cause any symptoms or discomforts, doctor might just leave it along except regular follow-up checks to make sure the illness condition is stable. However if the cyst continue to enlarge in a rapid rate, it will oppress the surrounding tissues and cause pains in the back and abdomen. Other serious cases will cause hydronephrosis, fever, urinary tract infections or even blood in urine.
