Is Surgery the Only Treatment Option for Parapelvic Kidney Cysts

As one common type of simple kidney cysts, parapelvic cysts are benign renal lesions and in most cases are single one affecting unilateral kidney, therefore the prognosis is relatively better compared with some other renal cystic disorders such as complex renal cysts, multiple renal cysts and polycystic kidney disease.

When parapelvic cyst is smaller than 3cm, its oppression to the renal pelvis is mild and patients can have no clinical symptoms. However if the cyst continues to enlarge and grows larger than 5cm, it can cause back pain, flank pain, blood in urine, high blood pressure as well as fever, shiver and kidney pain when there are infections, etc. And when the cyst is too large, it can cause hydronephrosis and patients can sense palpable abdominal masses.

In case of the above mentioned symptoms and discomforts, surgery is usually adopted traditionally. The commonly operated surgeries include unroofing decompression, puncture under the guidance of B ultrasound and laparoscopic resection. Due to the complex structure of the renal hilum or if the cyst is too deep, the surgery is not very proper. What is more, patients have to wait until the cysts grow large enough to take the surgery, not to say the high recurrent rate and additional damages caused to the body.

This is because surgery only removes the necrotic tissues without any repairing and regulation of the disorders, so the parapelvic will be re-filled with fluid after a period of time and patients have to take the surgery again. And the surgery will definitely cause damages to the kidneys and it is very easy to catch infections if not handled well.

Actually surgery is not the only treatment options for parapelvic cysts. There are many other natural and conservative treatments which are more suitable for parapelvic cyst patients because they are mostly elderly people. One of the conservative treatments for parapelvic cysts is herbal medicines. Though herbs can not have quick effects as that of surgery, it does not do additional injuries to the kidneys and it has lasting and durable effects on both small and large cysts.
