The Symptoms of Ruptured Kidney Cysts

2012-10-27 09:59

Kidney cysts are the general term for cystic masses in the kidneys. When the cyst is small in size (less than 3cm), usually there is no obvious symptoms and discomforts and if the cysts do not grow too rapidly, they will not affect the patients’ normal life and patients can receive no special treatments besides regular follow-up checks.

However, in some cases the cysts will experience continuous growth and enlargement and the enlarged cysts will oppress the surrounding renal tissues and other organs. Of cause, the cysts are being oppressed too and they have the tendency to get ruptured and some strenuous activities or physical traumas can also cause the cysts to rupture.

Cyst rupture is relatively severe condition and it will cause many symptoms and sufferings to the patient such as cystic bleeding, blood in urine, infections, and pains and so on.

One of the common symptoms of ruptured kidney cysts is infection which will cause inflammations in the kidneys and in serious conditions; it can lead to persistent bleeding, secondary infections or even renal failure. Therefore proper and timely treatments should be adopt to first deal with symptoms including anti-infection, stopping bleeding and then to seek more effective treatments to preserve remaining kidney functions and repairing kidney functions.

If the ruptured kidney cysts cause infections, patients will feel shiver, fever and back pain and sometimes with urinary frequency, urinary urgency or urinary pain. The blood culture and urinary bacterial culture can be positive.

If the cyst is located in the upper or lower pole of the kidney or on the edge, puncture can be done to drain the cystic fluid out and then saline will be injected into the cysts to wash the cystic cavity. This should be done after 2 or 3 days until the temperature becomes normal. At the same time, antibiotics should be used to deal with the infections.

However the puncture can not cure the kidney cysts and usually after a period of time the cysts will be re-filled with fluid. Therefore puncture should be combined with herbal therapy. Puncture is good at treating symptoms especially some urgent conditions such as cystic rupture and bleeding, while herbal medicines are good at regulating and repairing kidney damages so that it can improve and consolidate the effects of puncture.
