Is Ruptured Renal Cyst Serious

2013-02-27 09:44

Renal cyst is fluid-filled sac in the kidney which can be located in renal parenchyma or renal pelvis. With continuous enlargement of the renal cysts, they will oppress surrounding renal tissues and at the same time they will be squeezed and get ruptured.

Though renal cyst is in most cases benign disease, cyst rupture is a relatively serious condition for renal cyst patients and it can cause infections, kidney inflammations and in severe conditions cause bleeding or even renal failure, therefore early and effective treatment should be sought to control infections, stop bleeding, blood in urine, repair damaged renal tissues and protect kidney functions.

Usually patients will experience obvious discomforts and pains when renal cyst is ruptured such as chills, fever, unbearable back pain, blood in urine, frequent urination, urinary urgency, burning sensation in urination. Since fluid in the cyst will be released when it is ruptured, therefore antibiotics will be prescribed to prevent and treat infections. Painkiller will be given if patients have unbearable pains.

When the renal cyst is ruptured, there will still be some fluid in the cyst which needs to be drained out timely or it will cause more serious consequences. Cyst puncture will be done under the guidance of B ultrasound or CT scan to drain the remaining cyst fluid outsides and then saline will be injected into the cyst. This might be done 2-3 times until the infections and bacteria are washed out.

The best prevention of cyst rupture is to treat the cyst when it is still very small in size. For renal cysts that are larger than 3cm, they may get ruptured due to oppression as well as renal ischemia and hypoxia.

Small renal cysts cause no obvious symptoms or discomforts and they are often found by accident in physical examination or in renal imaging tests done for other reasons. When renal cysts are detected, early treatment should be sought even though it is very small and patients have no obvious symptoms.

Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy can expand blood vessels and promote local blood circulation so to gradually shrink the cysts. It can also inhibit further secretion of more cyst fluid by the epithelial cells of the cyst wall so as to prevent growing the cyst from the root and reduce damages to renal intrinsic cells and tissues.
