Is a 4cm Parapelvic cyst dangerous? Usually a Parapelvic renal cyst is identified during excretory urography as a mass causing extrinsic compression on the renal pelvic. A 4cm Parapelvic cyst is a health concern, not only in that it can cause such complaints as flank pains and high blood pressure, but also that it can occupy healthy tissues of kidneys to cause kidney deterioration.

Problems a 4 cm a Parapelvic Cyst can cause

Parapelvic cysts of the kidneys are often located adjacent to the renal pelvis or the renal sinus. The cyst is filled with fluid and can get enlarged gradually over time. The patients have no complaints when the cyst is not severe so they just need close observation and regular re-examinations. However, as the cyst enlarges to 3cm, it can cause increase tension on renal capsules and cause flank pains.

In addition, compression of the enlarged cyst to renal tissues can cause renal ischemia and elevate blood pressure. Cramps on smooth muscle can cause microscopic or gross hematuria. When a 4cm Parapelvic cyst gets ruptured, it can cause further deteriorate the kidneys and cause combined infections, symptoms of which include chills, fever, sensitive to percussion, etc. A Parapelvic Cyst is sometimes combined with kidney stones which can block the ureter and cause renal colics. The patients will need close observation of the illness condition and treat it timely if they have any of the mentioned symptoms and reduction of renal functions.

Treatment for 4cm Parapelvic cyst

There are both conservative therapy and surgical treatment for Parapelvic cysts.

Conservative therapy. Dietary therapy is a basic method. Restrict the intake of sodium to control your blood pressure. Avoid cigarettes and alcohol which can promote the growth of kidney cysts. Control your intake of proteins to 0.6-0.8g/kg.d. Avoid salted foods, processed foods, pepper and seafoods. Herbal medicine treatment will be of help for shrinking the cysts and protecting the kidneys. It works in a slower process than surgical treatment but more safe and effective.

Surgical treatment. A common method is to pump cystic liquid by inserting a needle. After the surgery, the cyst is controlled so that patients can have symptoms remitted. However, the result maybe not satisfactory enough because the cyst can grow larger later and deterioration of the kidney condition can not be controlled effectively.
