Susceptible Populations of Renal Cysts in Kidney

2012-11-18 09:45

Renal cyst, also known as kidney cyst, is a common disorder in the kidneys. It can be single or multiple affecting unilateral or bilateral kidneys. A lot of studies have been put on the causes of renal cysts, however until now there is no consensus. There can be congenital factors (genetic mutation) as well as acquired factors (infection, virus, toxins, certain medicines, dialysis, etc).

Some people are more susceptible to have cysts forming in their kidneys than others and let’s see who the susceptible populations are so that they can have early and effective prevention measures and reduce its risk.

1. People who are over-tired including physical, mental over-tiredness and excessive sex. Long term irregular life habits and lack of exercises will increase the incidence of getting renal cysts.

2. Abnormalities in moods especially those that are under long term depression, fever and worries.

3. Those who are living in severely-polluted environments for long time or have contacts with toxic chemicals (including renal toxicity medicines and drugs) or radiations.

4. Those who have discomforts in back and abdomen and unexplained hypertension or abnormal renal functions.

5. If family members have renal cystic diseases. Since renal cystic disease such as PKD usually will cause cysts in other organs such as liver, spleen, pancreas, etc. Therefore B ultrasound is recommended for those who have family history of kidney cysts.

6. Those who have intermittent proteinurie or mild protein in urine, but it should be first distinguished from nephritis.

There are some certain toxins and medicines that can induce and worsen renal cysts and it is necessary to have some knowledge of this. Common toxins include pesticide, chemicals, radiation and pollutions. Some certain medicines can damage the kidneys if used improperly including both western medicines (kanamycin, gentamycin, sulfa, rifampin, indomethacin) and Chinese medicines (centipede, nux vomica).
