Q:

I have nephritis and before the diagnosis of nephritis I had respiratory tract infections. My creatinine is 1.2 and GFR is 89. Are there any suggestions?

A:

There are many types of nephritis---primary and secondary, acute and chronic according to the underlying cause and the duration.

One month before the onset of nephritis, most patients have illness history of infections such as suppurative tonsillitis and high fever, etc.

The normal creatinine level is 0.5-1.0 for women and 0.7-1.2 for men and GFR 89 means that you just entered stage 2 CKD and your kidney functions are mildly damaged. So do not worry, your current illness conditions is not that bad and there is great chance to get recovery. The key point for you is to prevent further deterioration of renal functions.

One important aspect is early prevention and timely treatment for infections which are common inducement of nephritis and worsening factor of renal damages.

Some herbal medicines can help regulate renal disorders, repair renal damages and protect kidney functions. What is more, some herbs are natural and effective antibiotics that can help prevent and treat various infections. Here I introduce several beneficial herbs to you.

Wild yam root is very effective on treating nephritis. Other beneficial herbs include bearberry, parsley, nettle, corn silk, etc.

Some daily foods such as cucumber, celery, carrot, apple, grapes, peach, are all good for nephritis patients.
