Creatinine 4.7, no Symptoms of CKD, Low Hemoglobin, can it be Cured

Q:

My mother is 56 years old and we have just seen the doctor who diagnosed CKD by reports. Now her creatinine is 4.7, potassium and has low hemoglobin, no symptoms of CKD, no iron deficiency. She is not on dialysis and we don’t want it. Can you suggest please suggest us some ways or medicine that can cure her disease and maintain her creatinine level and hemoglobin at normal levels.

A:

Your mother's creatinine is very high. Normal range of creatinine in women is 0.6 to 1.2, but now your mother’s creatinine has been 4.7, which suggests that kidney function as declined for at least over fifty percent.

She has severe anemia, usually when the patients develop into renal failure, it easily has th Besides your mother's iron in the blood is in normal range, it proves that she is not iron deficiency anemia, but it is due to the kidney can not secrete sufficient erythropoietin, which stimulates body to produce blood cells. Since her renal function has reduced a lot, therefore, she has anemia. I believe the doctor should give her EPO injection.

She will need to prevent electrolyte disorders.  Please avoid high phosphorus food, and high purine food. High phosphorus food: kelp, laver, animal innards, sesame, tea-leaf, honey, and egg yolk, etc. Food contains high purine: soup stocs, red meat, duck, mushroom, sardine, eel and asparagus. If the phosphorus level is too high, this can cause skin itching.

The abnormal creatinine level and HB are caused by her damaged kidneys. So what should do from the root is to repair the kidneys and improve the kidney function, once her kidney function can be improved, all of these abnormal items can return to normal level.

What medicines or treatments your mother is receiving now? Kidney disease is a latent disease. In the very primary stage, kidney damage develops without posing any symptoms. It will be too late if systemic problems are present and creatinine further elevates to the point where dialysis is needed. Combination of western medicine treatment and traditional Chinese medicine treatment is helpful for her current condition. While western medicines are helpful in relieving symptoms, herbal medicines are natural and safe which could improve immunity, stop further renal fibrosis and provide nutritive condition for improving the kidney conditions. In order to lower creatinine and maintain normal hemoglobin, we should focus on treating the kidneys, isn’t it?
