Is Creatinine 2.3 the Starting Stage of Kidney Disease

2012-11-26 12:40

Q:

I am 66 years old, serum creatinine is 2.3 and hemoglobin 10.2. I am now on ketosterils to control my creatinine. I am I now in starting stage of kidney disease? What do you suggest for my current condition?

A:

If your creatinine is 2.3, I am sorry that your kidney disease is not in the early stage. It is in the late stage 3 or even stage 4 of chronic kidney disease. Please confirm this problem with your doctor.

Your hemoglobin level is low, which indicates that you have anemia, a condition caused by your kidney problem. Normally our kidneys have the function of secreting EPO which can promote the red blood cell formation. For this reason, if kidney is damaged, it can not secrete EPO as normal, so you will have anemia and you need some medicine to relieve this symptom.

As for the increasing creatinine, I think you also know that it is because the kidney function decline. Normally, creatinine can be divided into two kinds: one is from the food we take and the other is from the muscle activity. However, both the two kinds of creatinine are excreted out of body with urine after filtrated bykidneys. If kidney can not have a normal filtrating function, creatinine will not be excreted out of body normally, so serum creatinine begins to increase. Creatinine level reflects the toxin accumulation degree in our body in some extent.

Ketosterils commonly used to reduce creatinine level for patients with light illness condition, but if the disease progress further, the function of this medicine will be limited.

At present, I suggest you consult some information about repairing kidney damage from your doctor, because in this stage, there is still great possibility of reversing the illness condition. But if it progress into end stage, the treatment difficulty will be increased greatly, but treatment effect will be lower. I hope you can get the present treatment opportunity, which is really important. Hope this can be helpful for you. Any help, please contact with me.
