Q:

I have hypertension for 15 years. My Creatinine is 5.6 and i have taken dialysis for one month, can i get rid of dialysis and what should i do?

A:

The normal creatinine level is about 0.5-1.2mg/dl and increased creatinine level is an indicator of kidney damages because the production of creatinine is relatively stable and the creatinine level is mainly up to its excretion in the kidneys. The creatinine is mainly discharged throught the glomerular filtration and high creatinine level means that more than half of kidney functions have been damaged and proper and timely treatments are needed.

Effective treatments rely on correct diagnosis. Since you have 15 years hypertension, your kidney damages are caused by long term high blood pressure. Though there might be other reasons, 15 years¡¯ hypetension will definitely damage the kidneys. Creatinine level of 5.6 needs to take dialysis to held discharge too much creatinine and other metabolic wastes and toxins out of the blood or they will poison the kidneys and other organs and threaten the patients¡¯ life.

Actully creatinine level should not be regarded as the indicator for dialysis because it is just a reflction of renal functions. So long as kidney function is improved, the creatinine will decrease naturally and dialysis can be stopped.

In your condition, you need to treat hypertension and bring high blood pressure down first and then seek more effective treatments to reverse further damages and repair exsited damages.
