2012-10-04 18:11

Q:

I have been noticing bubbles on the surface of the water when urinating. Could this be the only symptom for kidney failure? I have no other symptoms, fatigue, blood urine, swelling, etc. I did have a physical examination 8 months ago and all my numbers were in the normal range for kidney and liver.

Hello, thanks for your trust about us.

For your problem, firstly you need to understand that not everyone with bubbles in urine definitely have kidney problem. In cases of kidney disease, bubbly urine means there are too much protein in urine. In normal condition, protein are kept in our body through kidneys. However, once kidneys are damaged, their function decreases and large amounts of protein leak into urine. While protein get out of our body with urine, bubbles are formed.

Proteinuria is manifested as bubbly urine, and usually the bubbles exist in the urine for a long time. Proteinuria, also can be called bubbly urine, is one of the dominant symptom of kidney failure, but it is not the only and specific symptom of kidney failure. In our daily life, many conditions can cause protenuria like urinary tract infection, high intake of protein and drastic exercises. Therefore, even if your bubbly urine occur because of too much protein in urine, it does not mean you have kidney failure.

Also, you can diagnose whether your bubbly urine appears because of kidney failure through observing these bubbles. In some conditions, bubbles appears when urine splash, so if these bubbles disappear within a short time after your urination, you may have no kidney problem at all.

In addition, although your test results show normal condition about your kidney and liver. I recommend you to have a kidney test again, so as to make sure you have health kidneys. Common tests about kidney problem include routine urine test, routine blood test and kidney function test. Through these tests, you can know clearly whether your kidneys have been damaged and how well your kidneys function. Lastly, hoping you have a good life.
