A:

Hi, I am sorry to say your mother in law will definitely suffer from dialysis or kidney transplant if she does not receive an effective medical treatment any more.

Kidney cyst in many cases causes no kidney problems, but if the cyst enlarges over time, kidney damages will be caused sooner or later. Therefore, for people with kidney cyst, they need to keep close observation to their cyst. In the case of your mother, I do not know whether kidney cyst is the cause of her kidney problem as you did not mention her symptoms and the size of the kidney cyst.

Creatinine level is a commonly used index used to reflect how well the kidney functions. Also, it can be used to judge whether a patient need dialysis. Creatinine is the end product of muscles, including meat eaten by us, and normally is expelled by kidney. Kidney cyst can cause kidney damages and make kidney fail in discharging excessive creatinine. In such a condition, large amounts of creatinine build up in the blood and consequently, creatinine level increases.

According to clinical studies, creatinine level does not increase until a half of kidney function is impaired. Normal creatinine level ranges from 0.5 to 1.2 and your mother's creatinine level has increased to 3.01, so we can know your mother's kidney has been damaged seriously.

Dialysis or kidney transplant is recommended usually when creatinine level increases to 5.6. Therefore, if your mother in law does not receive medical treatment, she will suffer from dialysis or kidney transplant. Therefore, an effective medical treatment is urgently needed by your mother in law now. In addition, does your mother in law has any symptoms and complications? If yes, please get them under controlled, because symptoms or complications of kidney disease always accelerate the progression of kidney disease. so instead ignoring them, keeping them under control effectively.
