Q:

Hi, my father has been suffering from Diabetes for over 20 years and he is 67 years old now. Recently, he was told his creatinine level has shot up to 4.1. What I want to know are:

1. Can this creatinine level be brought down?

2. If not, can this be maintained?

3. Can he prevent the kidney from further damage?

4. At what level is dialysis required? Can this be avoided?

A:

Hello, the followings are the answer to your questions, if there is anything unclear, welcome to contact us again.

1. Creatinine level can be lowered through increasing kidney function, but what we need to know is kidney function can not be recovered completely. In our kidneys, there are healthy renal tissues, damaged renal tissues and dead renal tissues. We can not make these dead renal tissues alive and what we can do is to repair these damaged renal tissues. When damaged renal tissues are repaired and work again, kidney function increased. Kidneys play the role of discharging creatinine, so with the increase of kidney function, creatinine level can be lowered to some extent.

2. Repairing damaged renal tissues and then increasing kidney function is the best method to prevent creatinine level increasing. At present, Chinese medicines show the best treatment effects in activating damaged renal tissues. Therefore, you can have a try about Chinese medicines.

3. About the third question, I can assure you further damages can be avoided effectively if we remove the causes of kidney damages. According to clinical studies, in about 95% cases of chronic kidney problem, kidney damages occurs because of immoderate inflammatory reaction in kidney which occurs when there are immune complexes in our kidneys. Therefore, as long as we remove immune complexes, there is no inflammatory reaction anymore and also there is no further kidney damage. As for the method of clearing immune complexes, you can have a try about Immunotherapy, an effective combination of western medicines and estern medicines.

4. Dialysis usually is suggested when creatinine is as high 57, but in many cases, patients do not start dialysis until they have serious complications like vomiting, nausea and itchy skin. From your description we know that your father's kidney problem is caused by Diabetes. For people with Diabetic Nephropathy, to avoid various fatal complications, they usually start dialysis earlier than people with other kinds of kidney problem.

Dialysis can be avoided by your father, but the precondition is he must receive effective treatment as soon as possible, otherwise, kidney failure will be caused and at that moment, dialysis will be definitely needed. I recommend your father to have a try about Immunotherapy and aside this, controlling proteinuria, high blood sugar and other symptoms. With timely treatment and tight control of Diabetes, I am sure your father will have a great chance to avoid dialysis.
