Q:

I was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome while I was little and now I am fine with it. However one month ago I got drunk and I suffered from discomforts in my stomach, I vomited a lot and I could not even breathe. I had a sore throat and chronic itching. I want to know was it related to alcohol. Weather am I allergic to alcohol or should nephrotic syndrome patients should not drink alcohol?

A:

From your description, I do not know weather you are allergic to alcohol or not which needs further tests, but it is clear that you should not drink that much alcohol or make yourself drunk any more. Nephrotic syndrome patients should limit or avoid alcohol.

Small amount of alcohol is beneficial for nephrotic syndrome patients, but the amount should be very little and it is not easy to control the right amount, therefore it is better that patients should stay away from alcohol. This is because alcohol can reduce the blood flow in the kidneys and worsen renal functions and further increase the heart’ burdens.

Besides, nephrotic patients should have constant bathing and maintain cleanness of the skin which can help alleviate chronic itching.
