Q:

I am 16 months post kidney transplant, and trying for a baby. Has any other female who child after transplant. Is this possible? Please thanks doc….

A:

Generally, before pregnancy, in women with chronic kidney failure, low ovarian ergonomics, ovulation, lack of libido and menstrual disorders reduce fertility chances. After kidney transplant, with kidney function recovering and endocrine function improving, chances of getting pregnancy also increase. However, pregnancy may bring some adverse effects to the matrix and the transplanted kidney; on the other hand, pregnancy may also affect the fetus. To ensure the safety, it is generally suggested to wait after kidney function is stabilized in the transplant kidney and immunosuppressive medicines are kept in low doses.

Other requirements should also be met: serum creatinine should be controlled within 133umol/l. Blood pressure controlled well, negative proteinuria in micro albumin in urine; without presence of acute repulsions; no renal pelvicalyceal dilation in recent Ultrasonic or intravenous pyelogram (ivp). Full investigation and evaluation by expert doctors will be recommended before pregnancy.
