Hi, we have received your email and thanks for emailing us. As for your question what to do with vomiting in dialysis, the following suggestions might be helpful.

First of all, you need to found out the root cause of your dad’s vomiting. For dialysis patients, there are different causes for vomiting:

1. High BUN level: BUN stands for blood urea nitrogen and it increases when kidneys fail to discharge excess urea nitrogen through urine. Although dialysis helps to purify blood, but in some cases, it does not work well, and after dialysis, patients are still detected to have high creatinine and BUN level. Too much urea nitrogen pile up in blood and they may stimulate intestines and cause vomiting.

2. Hypotension: Hypotension is another cause for dialysis patients to experience vomiting. Dialysis itself can cause hypotension and also in some cases, hypotension may occur as a result of eating too much hypertensive drugs before dialysis. If your dad is taking hypertensive medicines, I suggest him to adjust the dose of his hypertensive drugs. (You can consult our online doctors about the proper medicine dose)

Besides, I suggest your dad to repair kidney damages to improve kidney function. You know both high BUN level and high blood pressure occur as kidney tissues are injured and kidneys fail to function properly. Therefore, only when the root problem is solved, can these two risky factors be avoided and also can vomiting symptom be alleviated radically.

With different causes, your dad needs to take different measures. Lastly, do you have your dad’s test report? If yes, you can send to kidneycares@hotmail.com. Our experts will help you analyze and then give some practical suggestions.
