Q:
Hi, I have PKD and it was diagnosed 8 years ago because my father has PKD and I had myself tested and it was confirmed. I am a female and now 50 years old. The largest cyst is 5cm, creatinine is 4.8mg/dl and urine 24-hour urine output is more than 2500ml. I constantly suffer from back pain and I also have cysts on my liver. What should I do and how long will I live with PKD?
A:
Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is a hereditary disease and there is no cure for it at present since it is related to gene mutation. However patients should not lose hope, because there is great chance that the clinical remission can be achieved with proper and timely treatments. There are indeed many people that can live a normal life even though they carry the pathogenic gene.
