Q:

I have PKD and about 2 weeks ago I experienced sharpened back pain and then I started to have blood in urine which has lasted for one week and I want to know how to stop it and will it lead to anemia? My doctor just told me to have more water and stay in bed, what should I do?

A:

Back pain and blood urine are two common symptoms of PKD. Back pain is caused by the stretching of renal capsule and oppressing of surrounding tissues and organs due to the continuous growth and increase of renal cysts. Sharpened pain often indicates cyst rupture, kidney stone, cystic infection or urinary tract obstruction. In such cases, hematuria (blood in urine) is often accompanied and persist hematuria will definitely cause anemia.

In such condition, timely and proper treatments should be received besides more water intake and adequate bed rest. Some herbal medicines can help alleviate pain and hematuria. They can also promote blood circulation and help discharge wastes and toxins out of the body as well as regulate disorder and imbalances in the body.
