PKD, Low GFR 19-21: Should I Take New Job

2013-04-22 15:16

Q:

Hi, I am a 36 years old PKD patient and have been out of work since last year. Recently, I got a new job and just wonder if I should take it. I work in IT and I can not help thinking about my health when I am working. But I am thinking that I should not take the job due to my low GFR wich has been between 19 and 21 for last two years. I just do not know what to do. Besides, I think it is a common thing with PKD-a feeling of waiting for “it” to happen. By “it” I mean dialysis or transplant. It is sad but I think many of us feel like this.

Hi, so sorry to hear you are suffering. I can hear you and know how you feel. PKD is a genetic kidney problem and can not be cured according to current medical condition, but it does not mean you will certainly do dialysis or kidney transplant.

According to your description about your illness condition, I do not suggest you to take your new job. You know high stress and frequent tiredness from work will worsen your physical condition and illness condition, which is very bad for you. Besides, your GFR is 19-21 now, which is very low and I suggest you to improve your kidney condition firstly, which will help you stay away from dialysis and kidney transplant.

At present, there is no cure for PKD, but with some medicines like Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy, kidney cysts can be stopped from enlarging. You know PKD progresses because of enlarged and increasing kidney cysts which oppress surrounding kidney tissues and cause kidney damages. When kidney cysts are reduced in both size and number, further kidney damages will be avoided and also, PKD stops progressing. At least, PKD progression can be slowed down greatly and you can live a longer time without dialysis and kidney transplant.

Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy is based on Chinese herbs and causes no side effects. It is not a cure for PKD patients, but it is an alternative treatment option. Now, most of your kidney function has been affected, so receiving treatment as quickly as possible, instead of taking the new job, is the most important thing for you.
