Q:
I have FSGS and yesterday my creatinine is 1.5 after six months’ check up. I have urinary infections these days and this is why we went to hospital. All other values are normal and no other symptoms. My nephrologist suggests me to drink at least 2L of water daily and prescribed sodium bicarbonate tablets as 1-1-1, and he also advices me to consult after two weeks. I want to know more information about urinary tract infections in FSGS.
A:
Don’t worry! Many other people with FSGS also have urinary tract infections, because it is a common complication of FSGS. Controlling it timely won’t cause any severe healthy problems, otherwise, it may lead to further kidney damage and worsen your condition.
Drinking enough water is able to increase your urine volume to cleanse your urinary tract so that it can help remit your infections. In addition, some medical medicines and having a good rest on the bed is also necessary.
If you use steroid or immunosuppressive agents to control your condition, these medicines can lower your immunity to make you more susceptible to infections. In this situation, you may need to use some other medicines such as herbal medicines which can help improve your immunity and correct your immune system. For some people, drinking a cup of herbal tea is also helpful to improve your immunity and protect your kidney function. You can choose the best method according to your specific condition.
