Protein in urine - IgA Nephropathy

2012-09-16 16:48

As a matter of fact, proteinuria caused by IgA Nephropathy is not as serious as that caused by many other kidney related problems. Even so, proteinuria means a lot for IgA Nephropathy patients.

Clinical test regarding 74 patients with IgA Nephropathy was done before and clinicopathological date show that "renal survival" at fives after presentation was 100% in patients with persistently mild proteinuria, 87% in those whose protein excretion reached to the moderate range and 69% when heavy or nephrotic range proteinuria developed. From this test we learn that proteinuria always indicates a poor prognosis for IgA Nephropathy patients and generally, the more protein in urine, the poorer the prognosis is.

Many measures can be adopted to control proteinuria, like limited protein intake and oral medications. They, although helpful, are delaying tactics, as IgA Nephropathy can not be treated fundamentally. IgA Nephropathy is an immune disease with large amounts of immune complexes (mainly IgA immune complexes) in mesangial area. Without clearing these harmful substances away, inflammatory response appears repeatedly, which can accelerate IgA Nephropathy into kidney failure. Thus, clearing immune complexes is essential for effective control of proteinuria in IgA Nephropathy.

At present, there are different blood purification technologies such as plasma exchange, immune adsorption, hemoperfusion and hemofiltration. On the basis of illness condition, IgA Nephropathy patients can choose different blood technologies to clean their blood. Once blood is purified, serious immune response and further kidney damages are prevented. Consequently, proteinuria is brought under control naturally and effectively.
