How to Prevent Reoccurrence of IgA Nephropathy

IgA Nephropathy relapses easily if we do not treat it fundamentally and every relapses of it will accelerate the progression of IgA Nephropathy. Therefore, preventing reoccurrence of IgA Nephropathy is very necessary. Well then, what should we do to stop IgA Nephropathy fundamentally?

IgA Nephropathy is immune disease and occurrence of it has close relationship with immune system. In normal cases, our immune system is strong enough to against bacterium and viruses around us. However, once our immune system becomes abnormal or is impaired, bacterium and viruses invade us, as a consequence, we become sick. These harmful substances are called antigen and when they combine with antibodies in our body, immune complexes are formed. Therefore, occurrence of immune complexes can indicate abnormal immune system or lower immunity.

IgA Nephropathy is diagnosed when large amounts of IgA immune complexes deposit in mesangial area. IgA immune complexes deposit in mesangial area and therefore cause inflammatory reaction which damage our kidney directly. In many cases, IgA Nephropathy patients are prescribed with medicines which can block inflammatory reaction. When inflammatory reaction is blocked, further kidney damages are avoided and also IgA Nephropathy is stopped. However, as IgA immune complexes are not cleared away, inflammatory reaction reoccurs and IgA Nephropathy relapses. This is the reason why IgA Nephropathy relapses easily in many cases.

IgA Nephropathy reoccurs as IgA immune complexes are not removed, so if we want to prevent reoccurrence of IgA Nephropathy, we must clear immune complexes away from kidney. After that we also need to normalize and strengthen our immune system, because with lower immunity, immune complexes will be formed again.

IgA Nephropathy progresses to kidney failure if we do not stop it fundamentally in early stage. Many patients attach no important to their disease when they are diagnosed with IgA Nephropathy until their life is seriously affected. Actually this is a totally wrong attitude. IgA Nephropathy is stopped more easily in early stage. Therefore, timely diagnosis and treatment is very essential for preventing reoccurrence of IgA Nephropathy.
