1. Low-salt diet

Consequently, high sodium level occurs, which may elevate blood pressure and cause fluid retention. Therefore, it is necessary for kidney disease patients, including IgA Nephropathy patients, to limit salt intake and avoid foods high in sodium like swiss chard, beet, collard, dandelion, mustard, watermelon, plums, grapefruit, banana and grapes which are high in sodium.

2. Foods low in potassium

Kidney is the organ that take charge of keeping balance of electrolyte. When kidney function is affected by IgA Nephropathy, high potassium level will occur. In this light, it is necessary for IgA Nephropathy patients to eat foods with no or low potassium like pancake syrups, hard candies, cornstarch, baking powder, cookies, whipped cream, baby carrots and herbal cranberry sauce and so on.

3. Foods low in potassium

Not everyone with IgA Nephropathy need to limit phosphorus, and only these who are diagnosed with high potassium in blood need to limit phosphorus intake. Foods with no or low phosphorus include white bread crackers cereals rice, butter, cheesem sifr cream, fruit cocktail, canned peaches, canned pears, cabbage, eggplant, cauliflower, carrots, onion and pasta and so on.

4. Foods high in calcium and vitamin

Calcium and vitamin play important role in our normal life, so trying to ingest enough calcium and vitamin is also very important for IgA Nephropathy. Foods high in calcium contain cheese, yogurt, milk, sardines, spinach, turnips, and collard greens. Most of the fruits and vegetables are the source of vitamin, but some of them are high in potassium and sodium, so please avoid foods that are high in potassium and sodium.

5. Ingest adequate protein

Protein is a must for our body; however, because of kidney damages, IgA Nephropathy patients need to limit protein intake and ingest some high quality protein which can be found in lean meat, egg white, fish and milk and so on.
