Ketosteril is commonly used to treat protein metabolic disorder due to chronic renal insufficiency.It is usually prescribed to patients with GFR below 25ml/min along with a low-protein diet. Can patients with FSGS take ketosteril?
Curative effects of ketosteril
Ketosteril itself does not contain amino.It can make use of the nitrogen in essential amino acid to convert to amino acid. Therefore,it can reduce the formation of urea nitrogen and the accumulation of uremic toxins.In addition,it can improve renal bone disease, hyperphosphatemia, secondary hyperparathyroidism and other associated conditions.
Ketosteril for FSGS
Ketosteril can be taken by FSGS patients with GFR below 25ml/min.In FSGS, as the glomeruli become scarred,a large amount of protein will leak into urine.Leakage of heavy protein in urine can result in many complications like swelling, malnutrition etc.
Ketosteril can stimulate the protein synthesis and inhibit the decomposition of proteins.It can elevate the level of albumin in blood and improve the malnutrition.
However,ketosteril has no significance in improving renal function at all.
