Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is diagnosed on the basis of renal biopsy. It is a kind of pathological changes, which also can progress to kidney failure. Therefore, similar with other kinds of kidney problem, Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis also presents patients abnormal symptoms. Well what are they?
1. FSGS always presents as a Nephrotic Syndrome
FSGS is one of the dominant cause of Nephrotic Syndrome, so many patients may found they have Nephrotic Syndrome symptoms and they are foamy urine (proteinuria), edema (associated with weight gain), hypoalbuminemia which shows as malnutrition and poor immunity, hyperlipidemia and hypertension.
2. Kidney failure symptoms
Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis is an important cause of kidney failure in children. So when FSGS progresses to advanced stage, side from the symptoms we mentioned above, symptoms like anemia, nausea, poor appetite, vomiting, poor concentration, tiredness and headache and so on will appear.
All these symptoms appear as a consequence of decreased kidney function. They bother patients a lot, so many FSGS sufferers go to hospital just because they want to get rid of these bothersome symptoms. Also, as many patients have no symptoms in early stage, which means they feel nothing different with others, so they do not want to go hospital or doctors for medical treatment. Actually, FSGS in early stage is easy to treat, and if patients can seize this change, they have great chance to live far away from kidney failure and dialysis.
Lastly, FSGS symptoms help us reflect how serious our kidney condition is. And although they shows as a result of kidney damages, they worsen and accelerate Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis, so keeping them under control is beneficial.
