Does FSGS Cause Nausea And Vomiting

2013-03-08 15:58

nausea and vomitingSome FSGS patients will have strong digestive system symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, ammonia smell in the mouth especially in the early morning when they get up.

We know that typical symptoms of FSGS are proteinuria, hematuria, high blood pressure, swelling, etc. If patients begin to have constant nausea and vomiting, it means that their kidney functions have been damaged and the illness conditions have progressed into kidney failure.

Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting are often the first sign and discomforts that renal failure patients will have. Usually patients will not pay enough attention and do not connect these symptoms with kidney failure.

FSGS is not easy to treat though some patients can achieve clinical remission with prednisone and other hormone therapies, about half FSGS patients will in the end develop into chronic renal failure and some patients can even have rapid illness progression and enter into end stage renal failure within 1-2 years.

In case of nausea and vomiting that can not be controlled by medicines, it is recommended that a kidney function test is done to see whether patients have developed kidney failure.

When FSGS develops into renal failure, patients will have high blood urea nitrogen. Bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract will decompose urea into ammonia which will stimulate the mucous membrane and cause nausea and vomiting. Lowering high creatinine and high BUN can help alleviate nausea and vomiting.

When kidney failure develops, patients often have frequent urination in nights . This can cause blood concentration and further elevate blood urea nitrogen and other wastes in the body, this is another cause of nausea and vomiting. Drinking some water in the morning if patients do not have serious edema can alleviate the symptoms. Some diet restriction such as low-protein can reduce the production of urea and other protein-related wastes, maintain minimal nutrition needs and balance electrolyte orders.

Treating FSGS and kidney failure can treat nausea, vomiting and other symptoms and complications from the root.
